This would've been a lot better if the history didn't seem like the author picked random notable names and made up backstory for them. It would have all been much more immersive to make up families entirely than to take what feels like bare minimum research and attach characters at random

The name dropping of local Omaha businesses feels weird and performative. Like the author is trying to nudge and wink the reader, but instead of an interesting easter egg it's coming off as pushy with how many there are. Again I wonder what the families of these people would think since neither is exactly being kindly painted
