"While I’m staring at myself in the mirror, I notice a little line across my hairline. It’s very thin, but it’s red, and it makes a border around all of my face – like I’m wearing a mask. And when I look closely, there’s a difference in the colour either side of the red line. My face is whiter, smoother, colder; my neck, my jaw and ears are all pinker – they look fleshier than my face does"
