Oh wow, that's nice to know. This is an epic, a wonderful and very expansive novel that the author has created. Not just about the Malnad region but about Karnataka, the socio-cultural topography of it rendered in such great detail. I am loving the translation by Vanamala Viswanath, you feel she has done it with lot of care because the sensorial experience of reading this text is so vivid even in English,imagine the treat it must be in Kannada then.

I have been slowly working my way through this one since end of aug, reading slowly, forgetting what I read and rereading because of long gaps in between, trying to remember the vast array of characters and the relation between them all, beautiful.
In chapter 38 of the total 64 in the translation:)
