Almost there

I’m 76% in, and while the writing is genuinely beautiful, the constant and increasingly extreme cycles of abuse are starting to feel unbelievable. Of course people experience trauma and repeated patterns in real life, but this feels so excessive that it’s pulling me out of the story because of the sheer improbability. Which is such a shame, because the book itself is so carefully and beautifully written.
