Already a heavy read. Story takes place in Sault Ste Marie Ontario’s West End, which used to be an Italian immigrant ghetto. Paci candidly evokes the stigma and shame of being the daughter of devout Catholic Italian immigrants at this place and time. I appreciate his honest portrayal of Marie, who views her “mail order bride” mother as backwards and vulgar.

my old diaspora lit in Canada prof talked about how great this book was a lot, and was very miffed that it hasn't been re-published. (She wanted to teach a class on it but couldn't get a whole class worth of copies)

yeah my copy is like, an old elementary school copy that somehow ended up getting sold on Amazon. It’s really too bad it’s out of print
