I don't know what's going on with these characters. At one minute, they are chatting, the next one character is distracted by working his forge, and then the next the other character is whining that things aren't fair for him and he doesn't want to conform to the other inhabitants that he lives with! Insulting them even! And the Salamandastron hares are parading, exercising, banqueting, and dancing?! That's not them.

Ugh, that was a stupid move. I thought she was smarter than that.

A mad hedgehog that is dangerous to all creatures, both vermin and non. Shows that typically good creatures can go bad just as likely as bad creatures.

Lugg the stoat was here and now he's gone. I guess that's now typical in this series. If a vermin is suddenly introduced with a name, then they're likely to die soon after.

Another instance where you have a married pair of vermin working together in the horde. First it was the foxes, and now we have stoats.

There's a reason why authors don't keep babies or toddlers or young children as a focus for very long. They're too annoying.

It's been a while since siege engines have been brought up. Not since the early books.

"'Ye should be ashamed o' yerselves, carryin' on like two starlin's over a worm. An' wot for, pray? Does it matter whether she's called Peculiar Nosebud, Flibbity Jib, or Wifflesplotch? Get some sense into yoreselves!'"
Even though I've had some problems with this book, it's moments like this that still shows that sometimes Brian Jacques is still ahead of his time.

The fiesty, little shrewmaid is in shock after killing a fox. Despite being someone who is prone to fighting both verbally and physically, the moment that she actually does something she can't take back, she can't handle it. It's a good reality check, as awful as it is.

Why are some of these characters acting stupid? Like, what exactly were you going to do by yourself? Rescue all of the young ones? Kill all of the vermin between you and them? You're a mole, you should've used stealth and surprise more to rescue the Dibbuns. And now all that resulted was only two rescued Dibbuns and yourself too injured to continue leading them to safety after getting them out of the tunnel.
