finished part 1 !!
what an epic timeline of what helped to spark some of the greatest movements in recent history! while each movement was different in their own way - from the us to france to czechoslovakia - they all highlight the power of workers and students all over the world, especially those w revolutionary socialist ideas and strategies. each chapter has left me feeling inspired. eager for part 2 ♥️

read chapter four
i wish i read this when i learned about the civil rights movement in modern history tbh. though not all of the chapter is about that, i just think harman’s analysis of the politics of people like mlk and groups like the black panthers to be incredibly engaging. great read

read chapters two + three
- chapter two (“a slow train coming”): great info about some of the most important changes/events internationally that would ultimately culminate into the massive struggles of the late 1960s-70s
- chapter three (the student revolt): similar to chapter two, but for the student movement. very informative on popular/influential ideas at the time + their limitations

read chapters one + ten
- chapter one (the long calm): some great political context during the post-war boom pre-1968
- chapter ten (the long hot autumn): also really good, made me hate toni negri and stalin even more but i’m sure that’s the point
