I keep thinking the religious stuff in the book is a metaphor or social critique— too used to secular education in China/sg/the us. but I guess the Catholicism in the book IS part of Italian literature and nation building. So interesting. It’s not overly preachy at least. There’s still a lot of social critique which I find interesting. Still a p dense read and weak plot tho. Cant imagine reading it in hs haha

Back to regular scheduled italiaboo reading. This is apparently required reading for middle/high school in Italy. I feel like as with many classics American students have to read in English lit, you really have to be much older than 15 to appreciate it lol. Maybe even a fair bit older than 33 :p
