They're not pupils, that's the iris and the constant mislabeling is jarring in the book. Let this slide the first 2? (or more) times with violet then blue as i thought it was an affectation of the main character. Now, it's with others the MC is in contact with... honestly it's making me consider not finishing the story. 🤷🏼♀️
