I understand why Gabriel does this but it feels like she underplays the whole Grace Hartigan kinda abandoning her kid thing? Also, next chapter is all about HELEN FRANKENTHALER YAY I LOVE HELEN!!!

This book jumps between pollock worship to “yea but he was also a violent alcoholic but his drips were good” ???? There’s 150 about how great his wife is and so much of it is placed in the context of him being a drunk monster??? No wonder the CIA funded him

The author spent like three chapters hyping up how hot Elaine de Kooning was so I finally looked at the pictures in the middle. And you know what, good for her! Her self portrait from 1946 is one of my fav paintings ever, sadly not on view though (https://npg.si.edu/object/npg_NPG.94.81)
