I desperately wish goodreads let us use memes or pictures. I think the author is aiming for dangerous and intimate, but the writing feels overly done and melodramatic. Anytime the MMC has an inner monologue (something like “violence has always been my peace”) I’m internally cringing “okay Shakespeare of the underworld, please effing relax”. I actually hate it here.

I’m torn. The storyline has me genuinely curious, but the writing keeps pulling me out of the moment….it’s distracting and breaks the immersion.
