I know the Jólabókaflóð is Icelandic in origin; is it like a book swap or like books as presents? Is it more communal or with family members?

Is it more communal or with family members?"It's books as gifts on Christmas Eve, which also involves eating chocolate/drinking hot chocolate, or at least that's how my family has done it since learning about it some years ago. It's kind of become a tradition for us since then, haha. 😅
