For a guy so scathing of 'left wing academics', he sure leans on their scholarship for his historical narrative. Abbott even has the audacity to lament that young Australians are losing interest in their history - despite the fact that his government rejected a revamped curriculum by Stuart Macintyre in 2013-15, doubled the cost of history degrees, and pushed a one-note narrative about colonisation, Gallipoli (cont)

James Hogg He's attempted to reignite the history wars, which I discuss in my thesis. I'm trying to get across it to strengthen my point that the conservative assault on the discipline is still important, instead of just citing examples from the late 90s/early 2000s. Some good ammo so far - apparently the 10,000 year trepang trade was just 'a bit of canoe traffic around north Queensland' and the New Guard was established to 'defend the constitution.' But I'm also reading it so no-one else has to...
