Current Chapter: Chapter Two
We’ve learned his name: Holden. He, like many people, has a vocal tick “And all”, that he says pretty frequently. The author wants to apply visible personality to the characters, and it’s evident from the character’s verbal habits.
He narrates in precisely the way he speaks, and he’s definitely a character. A touch irresponsible and irreverent, it seems.

God, I can see what Holden means. Ackley IS annoying, though, knowing Holden, I wonder if he’s quite as irritating as he paints him to be. He isn’t exactly the most reliable narrator.

Current Chapter: Chapter Two
In a lot of ways, I think Holden isn’t terribly unreasonable in the way that he thinks; he voices a lot of the internalized and less attractive thoughts that we all have for supposed authority figures, though his points of view are less than responsible or even particularly mature.
He recognizes enough that Spencer cares, but their “talk” felt horribly unproductive.

You know, it’s interesting. Holden has a hard time seeing that Spencer is upset because he cares, and Spencer, like many adults, resorts to berating and expressing their care through anger.
It is clear that Spencer is disappointed, though I can’t tell if it’s of his love of history or his concern regarding Holden’s lack of effort. Perhaps both.

Current Chapter: Chapter One
The character, who I imagine is the main character, is immediately interesting as he is very opinionated, if also slightly obtuse in the way that he describes things. He seems ready and willing to ramble on and go on tangents, which presents his narrative as much more conversational and casual.
The writing style is punchy and quick, and it leads to intrigue.
