Current Chapter: Chapter Seven - “The Sorting Hat”
This is a kid’s dream! I can certainly see the appeal of such a new environment and the allure of magic and wonder. However, the undercurrent of danger is ever-present and hinted at throughout the text.

The establishment of the main trio was nicely done and after so much tension between the three of them, it’s nice to see them reconcile at last.

Current Chapter: Chapter Ten - “Halloween”
The mystery continues, and more about this world is revealed. Very neat to see answers to the strings of strangeness being answered in time, and a great, three-headed Cerberus protects whatever is in that package. The interactions between characters is the driving force behind the progression of the story.
Really enjoying this so far.

Current Chapter: Chapter Nine - “The Midnight Duel”
I am really enjoying the progression of the story thus far. The intersecting points of interest: the Gringott’s vault heist (or the attempted one at least), Harry and Draco’s growing rivalry, Snape’s distinct loathing of Harry, and just looking at Hogwarts and how it operates…it’s all rather enthralling.

I am really enjoying the progression of the story thus far. I am sensing a bit of favoritism regarding the hierarchy of the Houses. There is a clear bias against Slytherin, for some reason, even though we know so little about the Houses at this point. The “bad” characters, or, at least, the most questionable ones, are Slytherins. It’s a touch weird that the story is so set on this detail.

The trio has arrived! Ron, Harry, and Hermione. Is Hermione meant to be read as insufferable? It’s an interesting dynamic between the three of them, and Ron and Harry also have a lot in common.

Current Chapter: Chapter Six - “The Journey From Platform Nine and Three-Quarters”
I am continuing to enjoy Harry’s crash course on Wizard society. We know just about as much as he does, so it’s been a little more interesting seeing him interacting with other magic folk.
One of my favorite aspects is just how normal all of this is being played up as. Magic is mundane, in a way, at least to magic folk.

Harry and Hagrid’s dynamic is so interesting, and we finally get to see the reactions of other wizards and witches regarding Harry. We’re also just meeting Professor Quirrell.
We also get insight into magic concealment as The Leaky Cauldron is enchanted to only be seen by magical folk.

There has been a bit of an exposition dump at Harry for a bit, but it wasn’t information we didn’t already know. I also know that not all expositing is bad, really, since he would, rightfully, have these questions.
We are Harry in this instance, being schooled in the strangeness of the wizarding word, so some explanation is necessary.

Hagrid’s here! After a long, maddening journey with the Dursleys, the great giant is a comforting sight. Was Dumbledore and the rest of the lot aware of how Harry was being treated?
Perhaps they only keep tabs that he’s alive? But surely they wouldn’t just ignore his condition; he’s been treated like crap for years. I am perplexed.
