Narthex: an architectural element typical of early Christian and Byzantine basilicas and churches consisting of the entrance, located at the west end of the nave and opposite the church's main altar. Traditionally the narthex is part of the church building, but not considered part of the church’proper’.
The nave is the central part of a church
