Haha. I love Gabrielle too. She* also reads quite autistic-coded to me - doesn’t like to be touched, doesn’t do chit-chat, would rather live in the wilderness than deal with crowds - but clearly understands and cares about her social butterfly ADHD-coded queer theater kid of a son.*Going with that bc she never says otherwise, just prefers men’s clothing and, for the period, who could blame her?
Though a “trans or NB but doesn’t have a word for it” reading for this character also potentially makes sense - don’t mean to say it doesnt! Anne Rice vampires seem to not care about gender or gender roles very much.
