While he is written slightly better, Vis just feels like a male version of Alien Gastro-whatever her last name is.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m enjoying this, but I just can’t ignore the fact that if Vis were a female character he would be endlessly referred to as a Mary Sue and a poorly written character.
