When I saw you were reading this, I had hoped that my review didn't influence you. I used to rate books much higher than they should be. 🥴I have no idea why Gavin raped her. It really didn't make sense. I don't know if I thought he was evil. Maybe because I've read so many bodice rippers. I did think he was an idiot.

Willow, I am having a great time with the story in general. I try to read it through the lens of the times portrayed and not current day. Unfortunately I do think it was pretty normal behavior. I interpret his violence as anger towards himself. Self loathing because she isn’t Alice and he is attracted to her.

It was such a surprise. The hero was not who you'd expect.
