I like how Pynchon takes time to explain the art(film, music, TV)that his characters engage with. It feels unnecessary by conventional standards and is something most writers would cut.It comes across as meandering but also creates a childlike sense of wonder,as if the reader is Alice in Wonderland, wandering rather than being led.

Also I like how time warps and doesn’t matter. The narration is driven by events.

I was going to start Shadow Tickets, but a friend told me this is one of the more accessible Pynchons.

First Impressions: Very unique and strong voice, in fact - almost fearless. Specific and atypical diction. Strange and interesting narrative choices so far, bordering on whimsical chaos.

Why on earth is someone breaking into a song with lyrics right in the middle of a scene???

Here for it though. 🤣

Ayo “Somewhere beyond the battening, urged sweep of three-bedroom houses rushing by their thousands across all the dark beige hills, somehow implicit in an arrogance or bite to the smog the more inland somnolence of San Fransisco did lack, lurked the sea, the unimaginable Pacific, the one to which all surfers, beach pads, sewage disposal schemes, tourist incursions, sunned homosexuality, chartered fishing are irrelevant, the hole left by the moon's tearing-free and monument to her exile; you could not hear or even smell this but it was there, something tidal began to reach feelers in past eyes and eardrums, perhaps to arouse fractions of brain current your most gossamer microelectrode is yet too gross for finding.”

Chile!!! What does this even mean? I got an F when I wrote long running sentences like this in English class in High school.

‘Your most gossamer electrode’ I’m using that to confuse the devil at work in the new year 🤣🤯😫🤣
