Half way through the book and there’s a gossip girl situation - someone spilling secrets

I think the reason why she’s mad at her mom is kind of weird. Or at least the way it is described is not great. Her dad died and her mom married some dude and the due hit on her friend, which is the reason why she went to boarding school. But I think just a general being mad at your mom for remarrying would have been fine…??
