Just read Chapter Two. Nine months before Malorie's children are born, Malorie is living with her sister Shannon. As Malorie worries she has become pregnant from a recent affair, Shannon is watching the news report a phenomenon beginning in Russia, where people see something before attacking others and killing themselves, spreading to Alaska. Shannon notices Malorie's worry, and takes her to buy a pregnancy test.

Just read Chapter Three. Back in the present, Malorie rows their boat (at one point, the boat gets stuck and the boy helps get it unstuck) as she wonders how far a person can hear and reflects on her training the children to rely on hearing rather than sight, realizing all the things the children have never seen. The three's survival relies entirely on the children listening for any threats. I hope they make it.

Just started the novel and read Chapter One. Malorie lives with her two acute-eared children in a run-down, dirty house in some sort of post-apocalyptic world, wearing blindfolds every time they go outside to protect themselves from an unknown threat. On a foggy day, Malorie finally takes the children away from the house forever, to row a boat down the river to an unknown location. Where are they going?
