The early descriptions from the narrator of her family really sent me - people say all the time that no one notices the things that you notice about yourself, all the tiny bits that you pick apart. But then you get this incredibly detailed analysis/judgment from the narrator of another’s physical appearance, and it really makes you question that adage.
