*Spoilers in comments* this was a very well written book toll from the perspective of the narrator who is a middle school, aged girl who’s best friend disappeared. Because of the differing perspectives and time points, it was a little bit difficult to follow as an audiobook. Overall, though it was a nice read with a bit of a plot twist at the end.

The plot twist was essentially the fact that Claudia had basically blacked out for two years after her friend’s death and was basically recounting the story as if she was going through it at that time, but she was actually two years older and just had kind of blacked out for a lot of what had happened. Luckily her parents and now boyfriend Michael were able to support her through this.
I wanted to like this book so badly, especially because it’s such a unique plot line, and the characters were overall very likable for the most part. As mentioned, however, because of the confusing timelines that were being described as as well as how much unnecessary detail was added to the book I lowered the score to 3.5 stars. May or may not recommend depending on what an individual is looking for.

Essentially, what unfortunately happens is Monday comes from a very low income family, and an extremely abusive mother. The mother had basically beaten to death both Monday as well as her younger brother August. Monday had gone to visit Claudia‘s mom to see if they could accept her into their household and when Monday returned back to her family‘s home, she told her mother of this, and her mom ended up, beating her to death and leaving her body in the freezer alongside her little brother who was killed a while back.
