Why did the tree of the knowledge of good and evil exist at all? Luther argues that it was a visible manifestation of the Word or precept of God in nature which Adam was called to believe. It was a temple, so to speak, where the Word was preached in the midst of paradise. The substance of the Word was that they should learn to obey God and His Word and to render unto Him due worship and reverence.

"until [Adam] and [Eve] had been translated from this corporeal life unto the life spiritual and eternal."

"For he was designed to be transferred simply from a state of animal life to that of a spiritual and eternal life."

Possible use in apologetics:

Adam was not meant to live forever on earth, but transfered to heaven, according to Luther.

"Thus the Anabaptists, the Sacramentarians and the Papists are all idolators!"

Condemning the anabaptists is harsh but understandable; condemning the sacramentarians is WILD.
