It took effort to get out of the bin. They hear the mayor announce that the lawbreakers are in town. Everyone must lock their doors. The mayor tells one group to search east and the other, west. The crusher moves away. Once all is quiet, they move toward the train station and are disappointed that it is gone. Then from behind them they hear the crusher’s voice.

Jack peeks over the tapestry and he sees the ocean. Snow is falling. They are going to the Island of the Beloved. This is why others are not aware of them. Jack thanks CP for his help. Jack falls asleep.

Ch. 49 Jack and CP snuggle up together inside the tapestry. They talk about how scared they were. They thank Hope for helping them. They ask Hope how she was lost. Her owner was wrongly imprisoned for standing up to a power-hungry leader like Power. Judge ruled against her and she is in a crowded cell with ten others. Her sentence is twenty years. She has lost Hope.

They land on the roof. They wrap the tapestry around themselves so that they are able to sit in a warm hammock as Hope flies. Power yells and screams on the roof. There is nothing he can do.

Ch. 48 The door bursts open and a bunch of adjustors pour in. There is not possibility of escape. A warm strong arm encircles him. Hope grabs both Jack and CP and flies away while Happiness blinds everyone. Hope is taking them to DP. She can enter the place where he lives. Only the most precious can enter. She will take them as far as she can. She tells them to grab the tapestry from the wall.

There’s so little of DP left that he cannot be found and is in the Land of the Lost forever. CP promises that he can have DP. Hope reminds Ambition that it is Christmas Eve. Hope reminds them that this is the night for miracles and they have a chance. The vote turns against turning them into the Loser. The Principles have yet to vote. Ambition makes a case that they have violated their ancient law.

Ch. 47 This is like HP’s hearing. Happiness had been locked in her room. Another thing had entered the room was soft pink and she had feathery wings. Her name is Hope. “Hope is a thing with feathers.” They sit in the last two seats at the table. Ambition tells them that CP and the boy broke the law by coming here to search for DP who is not in the Land of the Lost. He was run over by a truck.

Power tells them he knows they are searching for DP. He plans to turn them into the Loser in return for a reward. Power and Ambition will rule as king and queen until they rival the Loser’s power. Ambition asks for votes from those sitting around the table. She comes up with reasons to win them over and Power bullies them. Beauty votes to turn them in. Indigo and Optimism vote against.

Ch. 46 The doors are locked shut. Jack and CP share the action figure cover story. The Principles warn them not to lie which prompts Memory to tell a story about lying. Power outshouts them all. Then he tells that he is here because his owner lost the nerve to stamp out his enemies after a boy like Jack questioned his power in public. CP asks if this is all about revenge against a boy. Ambition and Power want more.

The doors are to be locked after some unnamed person goes to bed but Ambition has not been able to find her. Clearly, she is acting suspicious. This thing and another were supposed to sit in their chairs. I bet one is Happiness. A bunch of things come through the door and they bring an odd assortment of food. They only fod they have is lost food. Things don’t need food but he accuses Jack of being a living boy.
