My favorite story in this collection changes every time I read it, but this time through it's "Children of the Corn".

"Sometimes They Come Back" is fun as hell, and its open ending leaves all sorts of cool ideas to ponder and theorize over.

"Trucks" has some fantastic imagery King couldn't creat in "Maximum Overdrive". The vision of a world overrun by vehicles, nothing but pavement as far as the eye could see, to s striking and surreal, and just overall fun as hell. He never did outdo this collection in terms of imagination. Only thing that even came close is SKELETON CREW. His other collections aren't even half as good as that one much less this one.

Absolutely loving this re-read. "Battleground" is an all-time favorite. Top ten King short stories, easy.

The titular Boogeyman is just IT without the clown makeup. It's so incredibly obvious this was an early build of Pennywise, a proto IT if you will.

"Graveyard Shift"

I always forget about the bats. Anyway, peep this info:

Gates falls is located near Castle Rock and Jerusalem's Lot in Castle County, Maine. Its mention in THE DARK HALF, BAG OF BONES, and the story "It grows on you". Recently, it's mentioned in novellas such as RAT (Graveyard Shift has monstrous rats lol) and MR. HARRIGAN'S PHONE. In the latter novella the protagonist attends Gates Falls High.

Everyone disappeared from Jerusalem's Lot in 1789. The letters in JS were written in 1850, 61 years apart. Every 61 years... 1789, 1850, 1911, 1972... 'SALEM'S LOT was published in 1975. According to the introduction of a 'SALEM'S LOT on I own, King reread DRACULA in 1971 and got the idea for SL, which he assumingly started in 1972...
