I fear this may be a little outdated in 2025 - the world has moved fast and far since the original publication. While human psychology is expected to remain quite consistent, I think the socio-economic changes in the world have actually resulted in a shift in both individual and community-based psyche.

Now that I'm halfway through, I guess I'll finish the book. I hope he has a follow up book or podcast specifically addressing the shift in culture/management/approach at Southwest, because that example no longer really works for his argument and is dampening the impact of the book. I like the section about the military, though they come with their own set of problems beyond the "ooh look how organized" shininess.

I may end up DNFing this, not because it's not good or valuable content, but because I hope he's written something more recently that gets the message across without all the dated examples.

Case in point, using Southwest as a shining example of brand loyalty. With the company's latest moves to protect its bottom line and increase profits at the expense of the satisfaction of the customers, it no longer holds up. I'm trying to look beyond the vehicle of the message and pay attention to the actual message because I think he's taking the long winded approach to say the same thing as The Serviceberry.
