Is the church catholic? Non denominational? Mostly Ghanaian-American/ African immigrant congregation?
It feels so nebulous and there’s little in the book that illustrates the comfort it provided Fiona in the past — or at the very least insights into her father. There has to be SOMETHING that attracts them to the specific cult other than bible verses

And she missed thr opportunity to take us deeper into the church because we never have a scene where the characters go to a service or get a glimpse of the internal workings. So they just feel like this nebulous outside force that’s disjointed from the other parts of the world

I did appreciate the 3rd act breakup where they are both accusing each other of not doing shit for the investigation, because hard agree 😭

And all this Liza cameos and no mention of her husband from the first book, it’s just strange because isn’t she supposed to be a married mother and like a full time activist or something now. She’s just shopping with her sisters in this book

Also the PI stuff is just really stupid. Fiona is like Maurice taught me to look for exits and suspicious cars following me when I go somewhere new. Idk maybe I’m a pi too because who is paying them to google shit

It’s also like…why wouldn’t Mark have known Sarah was dead if it was on the news? He’s CEO of a major tech company, was working with her constantly and has this vast social network and party boy lifestyle, it’s implausible that someone wouldn’t tell him before Fiona randomly

But also I have no sense of time in this novel — how many days have passed since Sarah died

This ending is a bit sloppy. We’re trying to shove in all the auxiliary details in the middle of the book’s climax — DTR convos with side characters, the MMC eating a sandwich. All for them to reveal 3 chapters into this whole sequence actually he’s a suspect (the only relevant thing out of everything I just read)

The redacted club scene with the Sankofa carved into the door was beyond ridiculous, but the ending of this book has all the Nikki Payne shenanigans I was hoping for in the first half

And 480 pages for a contemporary romance is just absurd
