The story line shows the Evans family surviving the moon collision and the aftermath of where they go and how they survive. At the moment the book takes place in one of the enclaves where Jon lives. The book is told through Jon's point of view showing his struggles of learning to live in the harsh reality.

THE 7 ARCHETYPES: the book I'm reading is a mixture of a tragedy, the quest and overcoming the monster. It's a tragedy because the majority of the main characters die trying to save each other. But, it is overcoming the monster because they have to overcome the death of their loved ones and survive their world. it is also a quest because the characters have to get to one of the survival spots before it's too late.

TEXT TO TEXT: this book reminds me of the book "Dry". In the book Dry, there is a family that is struggling after a drought hits leaving them stranded without water and resources. In the book The Shade of the Moon the Evans family fights their way through the dystopian landscape after a meteor strikes the moon. In these two books both families have to survive the aftermath of devastating weather phenomenons.
