Also I read a spoiler for this - actually I don’t even know if it’s for this book or the next book or the one after that. I’m upset.

I’m quite sad I’m within the final 60 pages of this :( I don’t really want it to finish.

There are some seriously graphic descriptions in this book. It’s very distressing because it is so real. There are actual armies out there doing these horrific things without any interference.

I am so glad Rin fought back because I wanted to. I could feel her anger, like the fire was under my skin. Gosh, Altan is so infuriating. Chagran is too, but he’s also kind of cool. He is new though so he might become infuriating. Also, I randomly decided to continue watching Avatar and the magic systems are very similar.

I am really enjoying how there is very little romance in this book. It is so refreshing, I could almost cry. You mean it’s possible for people to talk without there being any romantic tension??? Imagine that. There is almost too much war. Like, there really is nothing else.

The Cike crew is so fun! So wild. I already adore Ramsa and Baji. I still have no clue what to think of Altan. Because he’s absolutely awesome but also a little sus.

I repeat, I am so intrigued by Altan! Also, I thought I had read wrong so I went back to see if someone I thought died had actually died and he did so now I’m confused but also intrigued and officially halfway through the book woo! Anyway it’s really, really good.

I like the addition of the new POVs. I am very intrigued by Altan now. I am not 100% sure I’m following all the talk of the gods, but I am almost 100% sure Rin is going to do something stupid that Jiang (someone far older and wiser) advised her against…

Up to part two. I’m liking the idea of the ‘magic system’ but I don’t know where this is leading. War, I guess. I like when the other characters talk back to Nezha. That guy sucks.

I’m really enjoying this. It feels so much like a ‘first book in a fantasy series’ but it’s (so far) quite a good one. I really like Rin and Kitay. Jiang is funny but also really immature, so I’m not sure what to think of him yet. I like the themes and I’m excited to see what happens next.
