*Spoilers in comments* overall a decent read, but with a predictable ending in a somewhat boring middle section. The plot twist didn’t bring the punch it needed. An overall OK story not sure if I would recommend.

Lena The story covered the life of Beth, Nicole, and their brother Michael. The family‘s mother passed away and upon passing, told Beth, not to trust everyone, and that her father did not disappear. We learned early in the book that the father had disappeared, and no one knew what happened to him. After the mom passed away, Michael, who is a very successful tech executive, as well as Nicole, who’s a drug abuser, go back to their family home to sort out all the belongings. They find VHS tapes and diaries and essentially end up finding out that the mother and father helped buried the body of a neighborhood girl. They don’t understand the context of why this happened or who actually killed the girl, only the fact that they buried her body.

Lena The middle section of the book is kind of boring, it covers Beth reconnecting with her childhood love named Lucas. Nicole battling with her addiction. And we know very little about Michael throughout the book aside from the fact that he is wealthy. Beth ends up, inheriting the home and Michael tries numerous times to purchase it from her, stating that he wants to hold onto the Home and Nicole can use it in her recovery to live.

Lena Basically, what ends up happening is that Beth discovers in the back woods of the Home three grave sites, one of whom was for Emma, the childhood friend and neighbor that ended up disappearing and is actually the sister of Lucas. One grade for her father and another grave, unfortunately for the gentleman that was accused of murdering Emma.

Lena Once you discovers the graves, basically her brother Michael comes up from behind her and threatened her with a gun. It turns out that he had pushed the girl Emma from a bridge, and she ended up falling on the back of the creek and smashing her head and dying. The mother and father end up finding out about this so they bury her body in order to protect their son. The mother and father end up growing resentful and disgusted of the actions of their son so they break contact with him. However, in his adulthood after his girlfriend allegedly passes away. He comes back to the family home for comforting. Michael and his father end up getting into a huge fight in which case Michael kills his father. The mother ends up helping Michael to bury the father’s body. It turns out that he was trying to buy the family home in order to make sure that his secrets remain buried in the back.

Lena The third grade belonged to the father of Emma, who ended up killing this man who was accused of her murder, although he had nothing to do with it. They ended up bearing his body in that wood next to the other graves.

Lena Michael and Beth end up getting into a fight with the gun. Nicole enters and Michael ends up being shot. The end of the book basically covers the fact that Beth and Lucas end up getting married again and adopting a three-year-old boy. Nicole becomes a very famous author after she writes a book about the fact that her parents covered up the murders of their son. And Beth’s daughter from her previous marriage, comes home from the military and basically they’re all enjoying their family time together.

Lena Overall was not a very impressive book and the plot twist didn’t bring the energy or spark that it needed to. Was fairly an average read.
