Kinda fun. I think it's going to be hard for me to spend over 1200 pages with characters who seem to have so little interiority. I somehow didn't realize this was another napoleonic novel, and I can't help but compare it to War & Peace, which seems to understand humans so much better, and to care about them so much more.

I think if you stick with it, you might end up liking it more than you think. Count of Monte Cristo is a favorite of mine, so it may be my own bias to say so. But IMO, the lack of interiority is a set up and if you can make it through the first part, I think you will enjoy how it plays out.
