It’s strange how pregnancy sort of makes your body a part of casual conversation. Like is there anything else that happens to a human body that makes it normal for people to ask, “How are your innards, Trista?”

“Trista, I am so excited to finally meet you,” she says, reaching out to shake my hand. “I’m Cozy, Wyatt’s sister-in-law. I’m married to the bossy brother.”
“Nice to meet you.” I laugh as Max rolls his eyes. If Max is the bossy one, what the hell does that make Wyatt?

“Max, be nice to your brothers,” a dark, curvy brunette says, coming over to greet us. She’s dressed a bit more casually but equally as cute as Everly. See, why can I look at this plus-sized female and see that she looks amazing, but my intrusive thoughts have to be such a dick to me? God, being a woman is such a bitch sometimes.

We’re always more critical of ourselves than others

Though admittedly, I’ve been wearing some of my more revealing tank tops lately because I like how it makes Wyatt act all weird and twitchy. He’s normally so stoic, but one day, I had a dash of abdomen showing, and he was suddenly very interested in the color of the sky.

At that moment, I realize that I am completely consumed by lucky number thirteen, and I have no idea how I will survive the next several months with her and, even worse, the months afterward without her.

Wyatt is falling for Trista.

“No fucking chickens, Trista,” I beg, my hands forming tight fists at my sides.
“No chickens.” She holds her hands up, her eyes softening now that she’s got me right where she wants me.

Wyatt has a goat. He’s OK with Trista’s pig, then a rabbit, then a horse. He draws the line at chickens. LOL

I have yet to meet a single person in Trista’s life, and the fact that it’s this guy Avery who Trista spends an obscene amount of time with...unpaid, doesn’t sit well with me. Especially because I thought Avery was a girl until two fucking minutes ago
“Thought you were a chick.” The intrusive thought spills out through my clenched teeth
Avery laughs a boyish laugh that I hate. “Not last time I checked.”

“Wyatt, this is Avery.” Trista smiles and places her hand on his shoulder. “He’s the large-animal vet in Denver who I help. I’ve mentioned him to you before. We’ve been friends for years.”
Avery’s a man? Her best friend...is a dude?

I did not predict that Avery was a guy.

My lips part in shock at this normally very quiet mountain man’s astute observation. I feel overwhelmed with the sense of wanting to fall head over heels in love with him or crawl across the table & fuck him in front of everyone staring at us right now

“You’re right,” I offer simply because deep down, the fat thing is just the excuse I use for why I don’t let men get close enough to me to be more than sex. The real reason is much more intense and would probably take years of therapy to unpack.

Will Trista tell Wyatt her real reason before this book is over?
