Is this saying we are to become a part of the Trinity?

Hey @kristen! No, that would not be a correct. As Catholics we believe that Christ lives in each one of us, and therefore when we love others we are loving Christ in them, hence the meaning of loving God in man. And because Christ lives in each one of us, we make up the body of Christ, hence the phrase “man in God”. Lastly, the “for God” is because the ultimate goal for everyone of us is to join God in all eternity in Heaven.
