Benny has a whole chapter devoted to how to be mistaken for a native speaker. Part of that is not standing out dressing like a lot of other people and not giving off American vibes. He gets mistaken for a native speaker and people speak the language to him because he dresses like the rest of the people in the country he’s in.

Benny always recommends speak first type products to learn languages. I noticed he does approve of Pimsleur but he always recommends the cheapest options and getting speaking right away vs trying to find the best program. Tracking progress is also helpful and having community is important too.

A helpful tool Benny mentions a lot is the fluency scale A1,A2,B1,B2,C1,C2 (A being beginner, C being master) is worth looking into more. Some times you can learn languages off of other languages if you care to. Make sure whatever languages you learn you have a need or passion to learn it and keep you motivated.

When learning new languages though you don’t wanna learn multiple languages at a time and you also like you said earlier, want to learn languages for specific reasons, not just to accumulate languages. You need to have passion for what you do. People maintain languages that are important to them.
