I actually kind of enjoyed the last few chapters, after the games ended. the complications of katniss and peeta's relationship are compelling sans the love triangle.

i kind of like these postgame chapters a little more. it kind of feels like the games exacerbate all of the lower points of collins' writing

lengths to which collins goes to force this eyeroll inducing love triangle is so funnh

I really hate how Thresh doesnt say Rue’s name, even though he knows it. cant exactly put my finger on why, i just feel like it kills his emotion.

as everybody else, profiting and being entertained by children slaughtering each other to uphold a totalitarian cast system.

i cant really remember the rest of this book but i hope katniss comes to realize that cato and the careers aren’t evil and she is no heroine even if the real evil, the capital, makes it out to be as such. I think that could be the best thematic outcome, even if i feel it at this point it is coming too late. I wish there was more thought into how capital characters like Cinna are just as much a part of the machine

of loose. many little things don’t make much sense and just take me out of it at times. I don’t like how overt the 11th district allegory for black american slavery and over policing is. It feels clunky and isn’t incorporated with any tact so i cant help but feel it’s a little disrespectful. After Rue said they got whipped i found some relief when Katniss immediately afterwards referenced whipping in the 12th

the games themselves are kind of boring relative to the stronger 12th district and capital sections of the story. cato and the careers dont serve as the antagonists they should because my belief hasn’t been suspended from the fact that they are child soldiers raised and groomed for violence no matter their disposition. their lack of competence is a little immersion breaking as well, and the overall plot is kind m

katniss is tuff, peeta is super corny but lovable. I really liked his assertion that he doesn’t want the capital and the games to swallow his identity as he is sure he will die.

Actually quite compelling so far almost completely through Katniss’s character portrait. She’s been built pretty round so far, and I especially found her conviction and resentment towards her mother particularly enthralling. The budding romance with Peeta is very corny so far but I’ll live through it.
