End of ch 8 - this book is getting more and more depressing and less and less fun to read

(Finished ch 4) So far this is such a strange book but I really like the writing. It’s one of those books that feel like watching a moving rather reading because the descriptions are so vivid. I am definitely intrigued to see where this goes, because so far I have not been able to predict any of it 😂
