I’m sobbing. I’m heartbroken. I’m mourning. My cheeks are wet and I don’t think I’m going to recover because Chumana is dead and it may be the most devastatingly beautifully written thing I’ve read. The dragon who stands for honour and change and everything Viv needed to forgive herself. She called Vivian by her name and died with acceptance and swallows sleeping with her. She is Chumana.

What the actual heartbreaking hell. The translators gift and curse : The language is untranslatable due to its original emotion and meaning lost. Viv is having a crisis over her whole purpose. Wyverns are dying with all their trust lost. The sky is on fire. War has begun. Chumana is captured and hurt while Daria who looks suspiciously like our favourite pink dragon has come to their aid.

It’s actually insane how much information has been hidden from Viv when she could be the rebellions greatest asset and I hate how her and Chumana fought, the only thing that makes up for it is finding the wyverns. They’re so cultured it’s amazing with their love for arts and literacy and I love how they nicknamed her dear one like she’s not just a tool to be used for the war but someone to hold close.

Viv’s becoming an integral part of the war, using languages as her weapons, gaining political titles : The swallow (a symbol of hope) or as the dragons call her (Brass-tongue). Love Chumana and Viv, utterly adore their relationship, Viv being roommates with a badass pink dragon who keeps her warm at night. Honourable mention to the audiobook narrator who voices the dragons so incredibly.
