Somewhere between writing Groan and Gormenghast, Peake picked up a bad habit of relying too much on describing things through antiquated racial terms, something I only got an occasional whiff of in the first book. A lot more swing-and-misses in his lengthy, unusual descriptions, but the dude is still swinging in very creative ways.
