Heading into the home stretch, Allon will accompany the Pope when he goes to a ceremony where an assassin known as the Leopard awaits. This is a good installment but not the best by any means. Regardless it's paced and written well just like his others.

It's not everyday we come across a spy mystery that involves the mudrer of the Pope nor one where his head of security has planned and paid for it. What lies ahead will most likely be Allon finding a way to prevent it and bring down the secret organization behind it!

It's interesting how Silva chose to bring awareness of the Nazi criminals to bear in these early installments of the Allon series. And equally unique is how he demonstrates the Vatican sided with the Nazis in an effort to protect their sovereignty. Here we learn of a secret society that stemmed from the Vatican whose objective is to to keep the truth hidden

Classic pacing that gains momentum along with plot twists. Since this is the third installment this is where Allon first meets Chiara who has been assigned to guard him since he's being hunted

There's a vague resemblance to Dan Brown's, Angels and Demons due to the Crux Vera organization. It's mission is to remove anyone who gets in the way of exposing Vatican ties to Nazis and antisemitic groups in order that it remains as it did in the middle ages. It has me wonder whether Brown read this prior to writing his novel

A master of pacing and suspense, Silva keeps the reader engaged using cliff hanger endings to every chapter

Silva has to be one of the very few authors that's fictionalized devious activities within the Vatican. In another Allon installment he alludes to high ranking Vatican personnel that gave shelter to Nazi criminals and as well assisting with hiding their stolen art works. With this story he's showing an antisemitic element of certain Vatican staff and the possibility of blocking the Pope from correcting it

Classic Silva picture perfect pacing and suspense he immerses the reader with the skills of a cardiologist performing heart surgery

This being the third episode in the Allon series, as with all the other early ones the plot is unique instead of formulaic and for that I am truly grateful.
