There’s a lot to unpack here- the start of this section is definitely the start of the climax and Jake coming into himself. I feel like he’s a little scared of himself here- I hope his talk with gramps doesnt stop this growth of standing up for himself. But I do hope he gets a handle on the anger. Personally Im proud of the way he handled the principal and what he said to his mother because WTF.

A greater rift has developed between the Livingston brothers, potentially influenced by something supernatural, although Sawyer Doon, despite my sympathy for him, remains a detestable character with a notable body count. My concern is the implications of Allister's relationship as the two black students at school; while it might seem cliché, their connection could add depth instead of adhering to stereotypes.

I anticipate that this will be a quick read. I know it’s described as a YA novel but even early on it reads as something deeper and sickly twisted at times. Characters are already complex and I’m feeling too much for them, whether it’s good or bad.
It’s a split POV novel which I like, as we’re being given the same story two ways but I’m scared for how the two MCs will come together.
