this is something deeply interesting about reading a book that came out almost 10 years ago. The book treats the queer characters as wild abnormalities that other crew mates will have to learn to understand, rather than it being innate. And not even like gender stuff. there's a butch, and people are so alienated by her for no reason. and it's just. I wonder if this is due to progress or the circles i am in.
