Why did Magnolia ask if Ellery was married like that's a thing gay people can casually do in this time period. Again she just never comes off interested in Ellery's queer identity as anything more than sexuality.

Ellery brings with her the story's worst habits and indulgences. I get that we're in the perspective of someone so in love with every minute detail of their crush, but Ellery is a bland and boring person. So with every line of dialogue and gesture she makes we get vivid descriptions of an aryan goddess doing nothing remarkable

Saying the chindo business network rivaled that of the CIA is in pretty bad taste since the CIA historically orchestrated to mass murder them. But also as passionate as the feminist critique of this book is, it's lacking religious and a certain racial context. Yes the misogyny is specific to chindo culture, but the writer monolithically portrays them as a rich class and not an ethnic minority.
