Sometimes all you want is that mindless piece of literature where you can turn off your brain and just enjoy the ride.

Rereading for the fun of it. Although I'm gobsmacked at the page count. My memory of this book remembered it as a fast ride so over 500+ pages was not expected.

I wonder how this story would change if updated to reflect technology in 2026. I imagine instead of contacting the BBC, there would be some conspiracy website. Instead of exclusive camera footage, a flooding of camera phone video on social media with multiple angles.

Would this story even work in 2026?

Rereading this book is making me want to rewatched the movie, just to see Ewan McGregor as the Camerlengo again.

I forgot the scene in the Archives was this early. Makes sense given it's importance to solving the mystery is but it is so exceedingly dramatic I mentally ramped it up.

Cassette tapes in cars? Pagers? Fax machines? World wide web?

How old is this book? Published in 1999. And ho boy does it show its age, because despite some advanced technologies, it did not anticipate the cellphone.

Another I didn't remember is how cringey Dan Brown's prose is in this book. "Pump her legs like an Olympic diver" (paraphrased) Yikes.
