There’s a whooooole lot of characters in this that don’t really seem to matter. The writing is a little weird, it doesn’t feel particularly urgent or lyrical. It’s serviceable enough I suppose but I haven’t read anything that I would remember later.

This one has a lot of really mixed reviews so far; Princess Mononoke is one of the best and weirdest movies ever made so I can understand wanting to write something in that same spirit. It's far too early to tell if the author can pull it off. Also, I have an early copy so I can't speak to if it has illustrations or not. I think that could've helped it out.

I saw an awful lot of two star reviews and DNF on this one and I think I would generally have to agree. I think the time would be better served watching Princess Mononoke instead
