so eliza is scheming now (definitely saw that one coming) and gilbert is jealous (love to witness that occurrence).

he remembered the book she wanted to read and bought it for her?? a dream.

i've experienced a man written by a woman and all is well.

"i would rather give than receive" everybody, gilbert is growing!!

GILBERT IS THINKING OF HELEN AS A BETTER COMPANY THAN ELIZA, AAAAH (yes, sir, keep on growing).

there's just something about gilbert wandering among helen's canvas and eventually complimenting her (in a sense).

mr. lawrence, thank you for being that one sensible person in the room, defending helen's right to her own opinion—the others should know better than to shame a woman for sticking to her own morals. gossip may be cute until you literally shame the other person without knowing anything about them. and gilbert is still sulking about helen (what's new) and still clings to that fleeting flirt with eliza.
