“Friends?” I ask. I see her swallow.
“Friends.”

I swearrr every book I’ve read these past few days has the SAME scene. They kiss, make out, then go, ‘Let’s pretend it didn’t happen and just stay friends.’ Like… be serious. We all know that’s not gonna work out.

“I mean it,” Carol says, absentmindedly clapping my best friend’s back. “You were sad with Tracy for years. And she was awful—”

“Hey, that’s the mother of my children.”

I like Cliff a lot. He’s nice, kind, hot, and genuinely a good person. But this scene? Yeah… it made him ten times hotter. The way he doesn’t let anyone disrespect his ex, especially since she’s the mother of his kids? Instant upgrade. 100x hotter.

At first I think that’s the sound of my heart breaking. Then I realize my palm pitched back and collided with Allen’s cheek.
I gasp. I can’t breathe.
Allen blinks at me as my pink handprint slowly takes shape on his face.
Still as stone, he breathes, “You deserve to be alone.”

I’m sooo happy she slapped him :)))))
