I got caught up with the Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling manga and I cracked open the fourth light novel to see where the new content starts and... it starts in the last quarter of the book.
Can I count the book as a read for the challenge if I only read the last quarter, or is that cheating?

Honestly the word count of even just a quarter of it probably is technically as dense as a manga. Maybe even more so. And manga count, so...
