Instead, she silently laughs whilst the blows continue to fall upon her. When Raskolnikov wakes he up is greeted by, Mr Svidrigailov, former employer and lover of his sister.

Porfiry is introduced to Raskolnikov, they discuss Rodyas article in the newspaper regarding: ordinary and extraordinary people and their relationship with the law. Porfiry is a very smart character and is quite suspicious of Rodya. He attempts to trick him into revealing knowledge about the night of the murder which only the murder would know. Instead, rodya was aware enough to recognise this trap from Porfiry.

Raskolnikov attempts to save marmeldovs life. He’s met with gratitude from the man’s family. On his way home he stops by Razumikhin’s house. Razumikhin walks him home discussing how zoimsov and zamyotov are suspicious of Raskolnikov and believe he’s insane.
